NCI-Roberts Construction completed an award-winning addition and renovation project in 2009 for Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School. The 4,000 square foot, two-story addition connected the church building and the school and incorporated a new church office suite, community and fellowship space, restrooms, storage areas, a kitchen, an expanded narthex with a reception desk, and additional classrooms.
The new addition was cleverly tucked between the two existing wings, enhancing circulation between them and providing accessible entries and pathways. The project provided space for more than 300 new members and improved the overall aesthetic while bringing in natural light.
NCI-Roberts later completed a remodeling project that transformed the original kitchen, near classrooms, into restrooms for a better use of space.
In 2021, NCI-Roberts partnered with Our Redeemer on its Nurture | Build | Serve expansion. This third project for the organization included a new 12,616 square foot, two-level classroom and gymnasium addition and an interior remodel of the existing 4,967 square foot childcare center.
To construct the gymnasium addition, 24-foot concrete panels were pre-ordered and delivered via a road built on the jobsite and installed using a crane. The worksite had to be exceptionally safe, as the church, childcare center, school, and summer school were open throughout construction.
Once the concrete panels were in place, work began to connect the gymnasium addition to the existing building with structural steel and steel stud framing.
The new gymnasium has regulation-sized markings for two basketball courts and three volleyball courts — a center beam divider allows the space to be sectioned to allow two games to be played simultaneously. Other features include six basketball hoops, four of which can be adjusted for height and raised out of the way when not needed, as well as built-in retractable bleachers and two scoreboards. The large windows in the gymnasium were designed to allow for future expansion.
The rest of the new addition houses new classrooms, bathrooms, storage and mechanicals. The second floor of the existing structure featured Glulam beams and tongue-and-groove Douglas fir boards on the ceiling, and great care was taken to seamlessly blend in the new construction.
The remodeling of the existing childcare center involved gutting the space and rebuilding it, including bathrooms, cabinetry, doors, flooring and mechanicals.
The new classrooms and gymnasium were complete to the extent necessary for school to start in the fall. This project allowed Our Redeemer to offer excellence in Christian education and care to more families and set it up for yet another phase of expansion.
